HRT ARC 2.0 vs GBRS Assaulter V3 — Battle Belt Showdown

It was a beautiful 75-degree October day in central Pennsylvania, so we took two premium battle belts outside: the GBRS Group Assaulter Belt V3 and the newly released HRT ARC Belt 2.0. Both are two-belt systems — an inner belt around your waist, an outer belt carrying the loadout — and both run Tegris inserts and Cobra buckles. The difference is in how they use them.

The GBRS Assaulter runs its Tegris vertical, and the mounting system lets you weave pouches down through the belt itself for a super sturdy hold without losing any loop backing. The inner belt is soft enough to double as an EDC belt without destroying your skin. I had mine set up with a High Speed Gear triple pistol pouch, a Tacticon AR mag pouch, a hard tourniquet holster, and an Adams Gear holster on a True North MHA drop attachment — and on that note, don't buy the cheap knockoff drop attachments you see on Amazon and eBay. Go with True North. Best in the biz. My one sizing gripe: I'm a 34 waist on a medium belt and I'm at the very end of the adjustment — if I did it again, I'd size up to a large.

The HRT ARC 2.0 flips the recipe: loop on the inner belt, hook on the outer, with the Tegris running horizontal through the belt so your pouches bite down through it for an even firmer hold. The big fix from the original ARC belt is the front adjustment section — the old one was all Tegris back there with no solid attachment points, and this one gives you full hook material all the way around, so you don't lose mounting real estate anywhere. Hands down, this is night and day a better belt than the original, and I used the original all the time.

I ran the ARC fully loaded with HRT's own pouches — utility pouch, two independent pistol pouches, elastic AR pouch, dump pouch, and their IFAK on the back — plus another Adams Gear holster on a True North RHP, which gives you 15 degrees of cant each way versus 10 on the MHA. The one caution on the HRT: the Tegris in the inner belt gives it a pretty hard edge, and if you're smaller framed and really clamping it down, it might bother you. Run the hard side down.

Here's where price gets interesting. The belts themselves are maybe $75-100 apart, but the pouches are the real story. HRT doesn't sell you an expensive belt and then gouge you on pouches — theirs run $15 to $25. That High Speed Gear triple pistol pouch on the Assaulter? $88. Eighty-eight dollars. Nothing to do with GBRS, it's a great pouch, but I could get three HRT pistol pouches for about $45. The Tacticon mag pouches are usually $25 and those guys run 50-60% off sales constantly, so you can grab them for like $12.

Scoring it out: comfort is a tie, with the slightest edge to the Assaulter for the softer front section. Design is a tie, slight edge to HRT for the horizontal Tegris. Price clearly goes to HRT. Company and aftermarket support is a dead tie — GBRS is run by former Navy SEALs who make phenomenal kit, and HRT is a tried-and-true company whose whole ecosystem I've been rocking for a couple years. Use case? Everyday duty, I'd grab the HRT ARC for its rigidity. Running and gunning, I'd take the Assaulter — it flexes and moves with you. I've never seen anything way better than these two belts.
