How to Carry Your EDC Like a Pro

The Verdict

Appendix inside the waistband wins for me — and off-body from the right bag is faster than you think.

There's no one right way to carry, but there are wrong ones. For me it's appendix IWB with a wedge and a wing pulling the grip into my body; a good hybrid holster spreads the weight if that's more your speed. OWB at 3 o'clock pokes out too much to stay concealed, small-of-back is too slow to matter, and off-body — done right, with a purpose-built bag like the 945 Industries rig — draws faster than people give it credit for. Whatever you pick, use a holster that fully covers the trigger and know your gun cold.

Today we're going through the myriad of ways to carry your everyday carry pistol — concealed, not concealed, all of the above depending on your state. Every gun was cleared before filming, so don't get nervous. We'll start with how I primarily carry: appendix inside the waistband. My standard setup has been a winged holster from Legacy Firearms — spare mag carrier on the wing, a clip on each piece, and a wedge that pushes against your pants and cants the grip back into your body so you're not printing. Worn slightly canted at appendix over my Nexbelt, a not-tight, not-loose shirt shows just a little print and nothing more.

Next is the Hidden Hybrid Holster, here with the P365 Fuse. Kydex shell screwed to a leather backing, suede against your body, a high sweat guard so metal never touches skin, and two clips that stretch wide over your belt to distribute weight — really comfortable appendix carry. The honest test: with the 21-round extended mag there's a good bit of printing, because nothing in this holster wedges the grip back into you. Drop to the standard 17-rounder and it's genuinely not bad — the clips sitting far off to the sides pull the whole rig close to your body. They also make a one-clip version, and it has belt loops if you'd rather run it outside the waistband.

That one-clip holster is where we talk positions. I do not recommend 3 o'clock or 6 o'clock. Small-of-back is old-school — my stepdad still carries that way — and yes you print less on the flat, but if somebody has a gun pointed at you, reaching around your back and getting on target takes way, way too much time. The one-clip rig rides best just off your hip in that groove where your leg bends, slightly canted. In it we ran my Glock 19 — the only Glock I own — which C&H Precision custom-cut for an Acro footprint and topped with their Duty series optic. Very Acro-esque, and I've been digging it. With a gun that size you get a little printing without a wedge; don't go bigger than a Glock 19 in this style of carry or you'll be dressing around it.

For true outside-the-waistband we ran a We The People paddle holster with our hybrid X-Macro build. Open, it's probably the fastest draw of everything here. Concealed, forget it — turn sideways with a shirt over it at 3 o'clock and it pokes out a ton. I'm not a huge OWB guy anyway; it's constitutionally protected and I support it, but I'd rather nobody know I'm carrying. And unfortunately here in Florida we can't open carry right now — we get into the GOA lawsuit on the Liberty Goons podcast.

The most controversial method is off-body, and this is where the 945 Industries bag earns its keep. It's purpose-built for concealed carry: a loop panel and hook holster inside, and a pull tab you leave exposed on your dominant side. Threat approaches, your non-dominant hand rips the tab down, and your dominant hand comes up on target — I'd even venture it's faster than drawing from appendix. Run it as a crossbody, and if you're a lefty just flip the bag's orientation and use the tab on the other side.

The wrap-up advice is the stuff that actually matters. Draw time and comfort are why appendix, quality hybrid, or a real CCW bag beat ankle rigs and belly bands for most people. Skip plain leather or fabric holsters — you want a rigid shell where nothing can reach that trigger. Never cross-draw; the people I see doing it flag their own bodies every time. And when you draw from appendix, cant the muzzle out and your body back so the gun is never pointed at you. Get over the fear, learn your firearm's intricacies — hammer, safety, decocker, whatever you've got — and carry consistently.

Hits

  • +Appendix with a wedge and wing barely prints under a normal shirt
  • +Hidden Hybrid's wide clips and suede backing spread weight comfortably
  • +C&H Precision's custom optic cut turned my only Glock into something I actually like
  • +945 Industries pull-tab draw is legitimately fast for off-body
  • +Clear, honest printing tests for every method

Misses

  • The 21-round extended mag prints badly in a holster with no wedge
  • OWB at 3 o'clock pokes out too much to conceal under a normal shirt
  • Small-of-back carry is far too slow to reach under pressure
