Vertx Commuter Sling Bag Review — Urban Tactical, Incognito Style

Before heading up to the ranch to film a pile of content, I wanted to get this one out: the Vertx Commuter sling bag. It's a 22-liter sling with nice padding all around, a moisture-wicking back panel, and a strap you can switch to either side. Most importantly, it does not look tactical — and when I'm carrying a bag like this, that's exactly what I'm looking for. Nobody knows what's in it until you zip it open and boom, out pops an AR pistol.

The main compartment is loop-lined so you can run whatever hook-and-loop attachments you want — I've got a three-pistol-mag holder in mine. My 7.5-inch AR pistol fits perfectly; I'd say you can fit up to about 10 inches in here, and you absolutely have to have a folder — it's not going to work without one. The secondary compartment can also hold the AR pistol, and a lot of guys actually use it as the primary since the main sits so tight against your back. It has its own hook-and-loop backing — two AR mags live there for me — plus a zipper pouch and some small side pouches.

What this bag is not: a compartment festival. The front pouch has a little MOLLE webbing and that's it — no organizer slots, no pen holders. Honestly, for me that's a feature. If I'm storing a weapon in here, the last thing I want is to whip it open and have charging cords tangled up in my gun. This bag is designed for one purpose and it commits.

The carry system is where Vertx really showed off. The sling isn't a single-point attachment — it's fully integrated, double-stitched into a padded, moisture-wicking back piece, and it's probably one of the best slings I've seen; most bags in this class use something rigid and hard. There's a hidden buckle compartment, a laser-cut MOLLE strip for a radio pouch, a side carry handle, and a rear slip pouch. The zippers pull all the way down the sides, so the deploy is fast: spin it around, rip it open, and you're up on target.

A few extra configurations we tested: the CZ Scorpion Evo 3 S1 with the SB Tactical brace actually fits better than the AR pistol — just no weight savings there, as Scorpion owners know. And for a lighter loadout, I drop my Sig P320 X-Carry Legion in a hook-and-loop pistol pouch velcroed to the bottom of the main compartment. Mine's an M-Tac pouch — pretty good stuff, nothing necessarily to write home about, but it does the job. Vertx also sells their own insert line — Tactical Origami — and honestly those aren't expensive; I just already had this pouch laying around.

So if you need to haul more than a belt gun — gym days, commutes, whatever — and you want it to read as a regular commuter bag, this is one of the best executions I've seen. And for everybody in the comments: yes, every gun in this video was cleared by me before filming. I am not playing around with loaded guns, people.
