Sig Sauer P365 FUSE Review — Long Barrel, Skinny Waist

The Verdict

Shoots flat and fast — but the 21-round mags let it down.

The FUSE puts a nearly Glock 17-length barrel in a footprint about an inch thick, with the best grip texture and deepest serrations in the P365 lineup. Shooting it was zero-issue — flat, accurate, and the Holosun EPS Carry made it easy. But across roughly 250 rounds and multiple ammo types, the 21-round magazines never once gave me last-round lock-back. For a gun engineered around its magazines, that's disappointing, and I'll be back with an update once I figure out what's going on.

Today we're taking a look at the P365 FUSE — oh wait, that's a modified XL with a Lone Wolf slide and a Macro grip module. That's an X-Macro. That's the AXG Legion. Here it is: the FUSE, the next iteration in large-small-format concealed carry handguns. Yes, I own a few of these.

It looks a lot like an X-Macro — the grip modules are almost exactly the same size — but the slide sticks out further because the FUSE runs Sig's 4.3-inch barrel. For perspective, a Glock 17 is around four and a half inches. So you're talking about a barrel almost as long as a Glock 17's in a gun that's still about an inch thick. Today it's wearing a Holosun EPS Carry, which has quickly become one of my favorite optics for carry guns.

What else sets it apart? The nickel-plated trigger looks different, but honestly it shoots like every other P365 — same mush up front and that kind of fake wall action, so no big difference there. The LXG grip module is the real story: laser-stippled X-Series texture that's a whole new level over the X-Macro's stippling. It feels fantastic — they did great on grip all around. The slide serrations are way deeper than anything else in the 365 lineup, even deeper than the AXG Legion's. You get the magwell that first showed up on the Tack Ops, a fiber optic front sight you can actually co-witness with the dot, a 1913 rail (there's a TLR-7 Sub waiting to go on mine), and a slide stop that sticks out enough to genuinely get your hand on.

And the magazines: two 21-rounders and a 17-rounder in the box. Carry all three and you're at 60 rounds on your person. With a 21 inserted the grip gets tall — concealable, maybe, but I'm not swapping to it. With the 17-round mag it prints no differently above the waistline than an X-Macro while keeping the longer barrel and slide. That's the play.

Range time is where it got complicated. We put around 250 rounds through it — Federal 115 grain and Hornady Critical Defense — and shooting-wise there were zero issues. The first shot surprised me; recoil wasn't as mitigated as I expected until I adjusted my grip pressure, and after that it was flat and on target all day, out to about 45 yards on steel. But through every 21-round magazine we fired, I did not get a single last-round lock-back. Not one, across ammo types. The 17-rounder locked back fine, like a standard X-Macro mag. There's also the familiar X-Macro break-in issue: until these mags are worked in, that last round doesn't want to go — you can force a 21st in, but it's probably not going to feed.

Here's why that stings: Sig designed and engineered this gun around the magazines, not the other way around. You'd think that meant they'd work. I'm going to tear it down, lube it, look at the extractor, and come back with an update. As a shooter, I love the long slide, the grip, and that EPS Carry combo — I think I missed maybe 10 of 250 shots. Sig just needs to sort the mags.

Hits

  • +4.3-inch barrel in a gun about an inch thick
  • +Best grip texture in the entire P365 lineup
  • +Deepest slide serrations of any 365 — even the AXG Legion
  • +Two 21-round mags plus a 17 — up to 60 rounds on you
  • +Co-witnessed fiber optic front sight; shot flat and accurate all day

Misses

  • Zero last-round lock-back on the 21-round mags — all day, every ammo type
  • Mags need serious break-in before they'll take the last round and feed it
  • Trigger has the same mush and fake wall as every other P365
  • Recoil was snappier than expected until I adjusted my grip
