The Verdict

The P320 AXG Legion is now my favorite gun in the whole P320 lineup.

I own an X5 Legion, an X-Carry Legion, an X5, an M17 — I'm a huge P320 guy — and the AXG Legion just took the top spot. The aluminum AXG grip module with Hogue G10 Legion inserts feels incredible, the aluminum magwell feeds reloads like a funnel, and Sig ships it with three 21-round mags instead of the usual two. It's a little back-heavy, which brings more muzzle flip than I'd like, and the integrated slide comp is more about reliability than performance — but this is a phenomenal pistol.

/The Rundown

You know I'm a huge fan of the Sig P320 series. I've shown you a bunch of them here and on Instagram — the X5 Legion, the X-Carry Legion, an X5, an M17, and more I'm forgetting. Well, the P320 AXG Legion is now my favorite. As the name says, you're getting the AXG aluminum grip module inside Sig's premium Legion lineup, dressed with Hogue G10 grip inserts carrying the Legion logo, a really good stippling job on the sides and backstrap, and slight serrations up front for your fingers. Huge fan.

The slide is optic-cut for the DeltaPoint Pro footprint — I've got a Holosun 507C on mine and it fits perfectly — and it carries the integrated comp Sig has been doing lately, same idea as the P365 X-Macro. Let me be straight about that comp: do you get as much performance as a real aftermarket comp on a threaded barrel? Unequivocally no. What you get instead is reliability — there are no failure points when the ports are just cut into the slide. It does shorten the barrel to about 4.4 inches on what's otherwise a full-size gun.

The details are where this thing earns its money. The skeletonized trigger is great, the aluminum mag release sticks out just enough to hit fast, and the aluminum magwell is sized right — not as huge as the fluted X5 Legion well, which I actually prefer, and reloads just drop in. Boom, right in there. And thank you, Sig: three 21-round extended magazines in the box instead of the usual two. Can we stretch it to four now? Love it, love it, love it.

It's got a 1913 rail, and I run a TLR-1 HL on almost everything I own — which points at my favorite dumb-sounding reason to love the 320 series: ecosystem. Every new 320 I pick up, I slap on a TLR-1 HL and it drops straight into the same Adams Gear holster as all my other 320s. No new holster shopping, no waiting.

The one honest knock: balance. Compared to the X5 Legion or X-Carry Legion at this price point, the AXG carries its weight a little farther back, and that back-heaviness gives you a bit more muzzle flip than I'd like — you'll see it in the shooting footage. I wish they'd weighted the front a little more. The practical fix is exactly what I did: hang the TLR-1 HL on the rail and let the light hold the nose down.

Price-wise you're in the $1,300-1,400 neighborhood; I picked mine up for right around $1,250 from my friends at Arsenal Arms down in Homestead — sorry to the guys at Puckett's Weaponry, who tried to sell me one and got me with a P229 Pro instead. Final thoughts: what an incredible pistol. Sig really knocked it out of the ballpark, and in a lineup I already love, this one goes to the front.
