BattlBox Pro Box Review — What You Really Get for $125

BattlBox is a monthly subscription service with four tiers, and they stack: Basic at around $40, Advanced around $70 to $75, Pro at about $125 plus shipping, and Pro Plus at $175. Move up a level and you get everything from the boxes below it plus a few more items. We're looking at the Pro box today — Mission 127 — and I cut the tape for the video and that's as far as I got, so this is a true blind unboxing. The stated value is around $200, and my game is to guess each item's price as I pull it out.

First thing on top is the mission brief pamphlet, which walks through every product at every tier — a nice touch. Then the gear. A Blowfish survival tent: lightweight, waterproof, lined with thermal-reflective material, 33 by 39 by 93 inches, and just 12 ounces. I'd never seen one before, so I went out on a limb at $25. Next, a couple of New Millennium energy bars at 410 calories each, heavy on fats and carbs to keep you moving. I called those about $4 apiece.

Then a Tactica M300 precision screwdriver. The end cap holds the driver inside the body, and it carries a set of hex, standard, and small Allen bits clamped inside. I popped the cap and launched it across the room figuring it out, but it's a pretty cool little tool. I put it at $25. After that, a Wicked Rescue all-natural balm for dry, cracked skin — stretching the limits of my expertise there — and I said $10, because I wouldn't pay more than that for skin balm.

The big item is a Rokagator Hydric 40-liter waterproof backpack with welded seams. Thick material, backpack straps, side compartments and straps, a divider inside, and a slot for a laptop or electronics. It's built for tossing electronics, dry clothes, and survival gear. These bags are all over the board price-wise — you can find some on Amazon for $30, and the SLNT Faraday bag we reviewed is around $200 — so I landed on $90, plus or minus five.

Adding it up: $90, $25, $25, $10, and roughly $12 in bars is about $162 by my estimate, a little short of the $200 they claim. That tells me I'm off somewhere, and my money's on the bag being closer to $150 than $90. If you jump to Pro Plus, you get all of this plus a BattlBox-designed D2 knife at 18 inches overall — a big blade — for the extra $50.
