Sig Sauer M17X-"ish" Part 2 — Norsso Slide and Olight Osight

A few months back we started building our own version of the M17X — we call it the M17X-ish. In part one we swapped the trigger and the grip module: an Armory Craft adjustable trigger with a break so clean there's literally no take-up before the wall, and a Brouwer M1811 polymer grip module with a beavertail that gives the whole gun a 1911-ish feel. Fair warning I'll repeat from that video: we pulled this trigger at about 2.8 pounds, which is super, super light — I do not recommend carrying a setup like this as your everyday carry.

Part 2 is the slide, and this thing is absolutely beautiful. It's a Norsso P320 full-size slide with really, really thick slide serrations — I love them, they're so easy to grab from the top or the bottom whether you're racking or press-checking. Here's the kicker: Norsso hasn't released this slide yet. They sent it out for me to look at, so if you want it to exist, hit them up on Instagram and tell them you saw the 2A Patriot Ranch video with the full-size P320 slide with the crazy-ass serrations and you want it released.

It arrived raw, so I took it to my friends at Warrior Gun Range in Doral, Florida for Cerakote — a desert arid multicam job that came out fantastic, like really, really good. But when you Cerakote, you're adding an extra layer onto parts of the slide that normally don't have one. I was already struggling with the barrel sliding back into its notch and had to shave it down a little, and I had a feeling that wasn't the end of it.

Up top is the Olight Osight, the rechargeable red dot we reviewed a few videos back. I really liked it then, the window is huge, and it looks pretty cool on here. Will it stay? Probably not — I've been talking to the boys at Swamp Fox about putting their new Gen 2 Justice on this build, which I think would look really sick.

Then the range trip. Quick note: the ranch got hit pretty hard by the last hurricane through northern Florida, so if things look a little rough in the video, that's why — lots of downed trees, but we wanted to get you content anyway. And sure enough, we got a stovepipe. I knew it was going to be that extractor. The Cerakote is keeping the extractor from sitting down where it's supposed to, so the little lip that pulls the shell out isn't grabbing deep enough — a failure to extract. The fix is simple: file down the extractor area and the notch where the slide comes back, and we'll show it running right in a future video.

So yeah, a bit of a fail test today — but I'll tell you what, this thing looks freaking badass, and as soon as it fires I could not be more happy with how it turned out. The slide is phenomenal, the optic works very well, the grip module puts your hand exactly where it should be, and the trigger is stupid light and smooth. Part 3 will get her running.
